Tim Binnington

The Chairman and co-founder of Sovereign Land, with more than 40 years experience in the property industry.
Tim started his career at Edward Erdman, where he was a partner from 1978 to 1985, involved in many successful shopping and leisure developments including St David’s Shopping Centre, Cardiff; Elmsleigh Centre, Staines; and Golden Square, Warrington.
He also advised a number of local authorities including Hereford and West Oxfordshire where successful shopping developments were carried out.
In 1985, Tim became Chief Executive of Heron Property Corporation, responsible for a £300m UK investment portfolio that included The Bridges, Sunderland; Selbourne Walk, Walthamstow; Victoria Place, above Victoria Station; and Southwark Bridge House in Central London. The Heron Property Corporation produced pre tax profits of £30m during Tim’s final year as Chief Executive.
Tim established the Sovereign Land Group with Graeme Newman in 1989 and together they initiated a series of successful direct developments, limited partnerships, joint ventures and debt purchases with leading institutions.
Transactions include a corporate joint venture with CSFB in the restructuring and disposal of the Lionsgate Group of Companies, which had a £450 million levered portfolio of mixed commercial property; a variety of limited partnerships and joint ventures in shopping and leisure schemes with Schroder Investment Management; and other partnerships in UK retail, industrial and housing land, including a £25 million portfolio with GE Capital Real Estate.
Tim has served on the General Council of the RICS, has been president of the Planning & Development Division and has chaired a number of RICS committees. He is a liveryman of the Company of Chartered Surveyors.
Until 2010 he was an Almoner of Christ’s Hospital and chaired the committee responsible for the £300m property and securities portfolio.
