Trinity Walk, Wakefield
Working in a joint venture with AREA Property Partners and Shepherd, Sovereign Land purchased the part-built Trinity Walk shopping centre in Wakefield from the administrators at the end of 2009.
Construction of the 500,000 plus scheme recommenced in January 2010 and the centre will open in Spring 2011.
Trinity Walk will transform the retail landscape in the Yorkshire city. It will include Wakefield’s first department store (Debenhams) as well as its first Next store. Other retailers that are already committed to Trinity Walk include Sainsbury's, Peacocks, H&M and New Look.
The scheme will provide more than 50 unit shops in layouts and sizes suitable for modern retail formats which are in short supply elsewhere in the city. In addition, it includes five new restaurants, a new indoor market (already open), a new public library and a 1,000 space car park.
Trinity Walk will bring Wakefield up 24 places in the CACI's National Retail Footprint Rankings to 64th in the UK and stem the massive leakage from the city’s catchment area to other retail destinations.
